Antelope Hills Principal to Retire; Selection Process Begins

With the retirement of Principal Karen Briski from Antelope Hills and an interim principal serving at Rail Ranch Elementary, permanent principals will need to be selected.

After 30 years as an educator, Karen Briski, principal of Antelope Hills Elementary School in Murrieta, will retire at the end of the this school year, it was announced Friday.

Briski became principal at when it opened in 2005. Before opening Antelope Hills, Briski served as principal at for nine years.

"Under her leadership, Antelope Hills Elementary and Avaxat Elementary were both named California Distinguished Schools," said Karen Parris, spokesperson for the Murrieta Valley Unified School District, in a news release.

Regarding her time spent in the district, Briski said: “I have met many wonderful students, parents and staff throughout the course of my career and I have treasured memories of people and events which I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

Superintendent Stan Scheer wished her well.

“We will miss Mrs. Briski and her leadership and influence which have touched the lives of countless children," Scheer said.

With the retirement of Briski and an interim principal serving at Rail Ranch Elementary, permanent principals will need to be selected for both schools.

Tammy Hunter-Wethers in October when former principal Kerry Wise stepped down to return to teaching.

"The principals will be chosen from administrators currently serving in the district," Parris said.

Parents, faculty and staff were encouraged to provide input on the selection of the principals by going to the school websites and completing the Principal Selection Survey.

"Committees comprised of parents, faculty and staff will assist in the selection process," Parris said.
