Voters Favor Change on Water Board

Two newcomers get the most votes in a mail in-only election for the Rancho California Water District board.

Two members were tossed off the Rancho California Water District board in favor of newcomers.

Lawrence Libeu and Roland Skumawitz got the fewest votes and were edged out, according to vote results released today.

Three seats were open, and five people ran, according to the registrar of voters. To see the results, click here.

Libeu was elected in 2007 and is a professional city employee, according to the water district.

Skumawitz was appointed in 2010 to fill the remaining year of a four-year term left open by another member who left the board.

Skumawitz, a Temecula resident, is the superintendent of the Romoland School District.

Libeu got 3,531 votes, making up 16.13 of the total. Skumawitz got 2,596 votes, making up 11.86 percent.

One incumbent remained on the board, though got the fewest votes of the winners, according to the registrar.

Lisa Herman got 4,411votes, making u 20.16 percent of the total.

Herman, a Temecula resident, joined the board in 1991and is a retired employee of a developer.

Two newcomers, Brian Brady and James "Stew" Stewart, will join the board.

Brady got 5,973 votes, or 27.29 percent of the total, and Stewart got 5,374 votes, or 24.56 percent of the total, according to the registrar.
