VIDEO: Issa Subpoenas ATF in Gun Smuggling Investigation

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., explains in a YouTube video his concerns with a botched gun smuggling ring.

Murrieta's congressman subpoenaed records involved in a botched gun smuggling sting, he announced Friday.

The records, which include emails and other correspondences, will show who is to blame for the operation that caused about 1,700 guns to leak from the U.S. to Mexico. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, asked for the records, but the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the lead agency in the bust, denied him, Issa announced.

As part of the sting, agents leaked weapons from Arizona gun shops to buyers working for the Mexican gun cartel. Agents hoped to intercept the buyers at the border, but many got through, according to reports.
