UPDATED ELECTION RESULTS: Paule, Melendez Keep Lead

In a closely watched, all-Republican contest for the 67th State Assembly District seat, Phil Paule and Melissa Melendez still held the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively,

Races between candidates to represent Murrieta stayed true to what they were post election night as more ballot counts were released shortly before 6 p.m. Friday.

, Phil Paule, the aide to Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, and Lake Elsinore City Councilwoman Melissa Melendez still held the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively.

Phil Paule now has 11,240 votes, or 28.17 percent; Melissa Melendez has 9,248 or 23.18 percent. The two will likely square off in the November election.

Lake Elsinore City Councilman Bob Magee, who was also vying for the 67th State Assembly seat, received 7,925 votes or 19.86 percent, according to the numbers out of the Registrar's office on Friday.

Murrieta School Board Member Ken Dickson held the No. 4 spot with 7,542 votes or 18.90 percent.

Murrieta's current State Assemblyman, Kevin Jeffries, held a narrow, 503-vote lead over retired California Highway Patrolman Mike Soubirous in his bid to unseat incumbent First District Riverside County Supervisor Bob Buster.

Approximately 7,300 vote by mail, 7,000 provisional, and 4,200 damaged ballots that require duplication must still be processed; the next updated results will be posted at approximately 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the Registrar’s office reported Friday night.
