Stop Light Installed at Busy Intersection Near Temecula, Murrieta Boundary

A new traffic signal at the intersection of Date Street and Kingwood Road in Murrieta is ready for activation, according to a news release from the city of Murrieta.

A needed traffic signal in Murrieta at Date Street and Kingwood Road will be installed with funding from the city’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program CIP account.

The signal is scheduled to be turned on at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20.

“This signal is needed now,” said Jerry Aldridge, Murrieta’s traffic signal technician. "However, the signal will be even more important with the completion of the French Valley Interchange construction, which will eventually connect Date Street from I-15 all the way to Murrieta Hot Springs Road.”

The intersection was monitored on the city’s Traffic Signal Prioritization List, and when traffic volumes showed that it was warranted, plans were started for the construction of the signal.

Ken Nordstrom, the former chairman of the City’s Traffic Commission, was instrumental in getting the signal installed.

As part of the project, Murrieta will also be installing a closed circuit television camera (CCTV) at the intersection of Date Street/Margarita Road, so that the signals within the vicinity can be monitored and their timing adjusted from within traffic centers in both Murrieta and Temecula City Halls through underground wiring.

The centerline of the Date Street splits the city boundaries of Murrieta and Temecula. As Murrieta is constructing this signal, Temecula has agreed to maintain the signal, as they currently maintain the adjacent signals at Date Street/Margarita Road and Date Street/Lakeview Road.
