Senior Citizen Forum Slated for Thursday in Murrieta

The free event designed to bring valuable information to Murrieta's senior citizen communities will take place from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. Thursday.

City and county officials are teaming up Thursday to offer a free Health, Safety and Wellness Forum for Murrieta's senior citizens.

Murrieta Mayor Pro Tem Rick Gibbs, Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone and Riverside County Office on Aging are hosting the third annual event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28 at Fountain Glen at Senior Apartment Homes, 24405 Village Walk Place, Murrieta.

"This year’s conferences will feature professionals speaking on the topics of elder abuse prevention, Aging Well/Live Long and disaster preparedness," said city of Murrieta Senior Management Analyst Brian Ambrose, in a news release.

Attendees will receive information on how to prepare for a disaster on a budget. Participants will learn how to create their own disaster kits, and a limited number of free starter disaster kits will be handed out.

Guests can visit booths manned by local organizations and government programs that assist the elderly.

"These meetings provide valuable resources and tools for the senior community, and allow seniors to ask questions and receive immediate feedback," Ambrose said.

A second forum is scheduled for the Golf Knolls Women’s Club on Monday, July 23. However, this is a closed meeting and only open to members of the Golf Knolls Women’s Club, according to the news release.
