A General Municipal Election will be held in the City of Murrieta on November 6, 2012 to elect two members of the City Council to four year terms.
The nomination period to run for Murrieta City Council opens July 16, 2012 and closes on August 10, 2012.
Nomination papers and a candidate packet may be obtained from the City Clerk between 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Murrieta City Hall, 1 Town Square, 24601 Jefferson Avenue, Murrieta, CA.
Although City Hall is closed on Fridays, the Murrieta City Clerk will be open on the last day of the nomination period, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Murrieta Public Library. The candidate packet, minus the official filing form and application, is available on the city’s website at: http://www.murrieta.org/cityhall/clerk/elections.asp.
However, to obtain the official filing form, you must contact the City Clerk department. Since the process takes approximately one hour, please call 951-461-6035 to schedule an appointment (phone number not available on Aug. 10).
The nomination period may be extended five days for non-incumbents only to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2012, if the incumbents do not file to run for office.
In addition, an initiative measure is anticipated to be on the same ballot, entitled: “Shall the ordinance prohibiting automated traffic enforcement systems be adopted?” with the options of a “Yes” or “No” vote.
