Planners to Seek Council Approval of Murrieta General Plan

City planners will seek Council approval for the more than 300-page document and the accompanying environmental impact report.

The Murrieta City Council will be asked Tuesday to adopt a General Plan update that has been in the works for nearly two years.

During the public meeting, the Council will tackle recommendations made by the Planning Commission. These include the elimination of the extension of Whitewood Road south to Jackson Avenue, the re-evaluation of road widening on Jefferson Avenue between Lemon and Magnolia, and the Commission's direction to implement a specific plan for Los Alamos Hills.

Members of the public will also get a chance to address the Council.

Should the Council decide to re-evaluate the Jefferson Avenue widening--which is part of a tri-city effort to bring the roadway to six lanes from Temecula to Wildomar--it would extend the General Plan update process for another six months, as the environmental impact report would need to be recirculated.

City staff is recommending Council certify the environmental impact report as is.

While several components have been updated or amended since, the last comprehensive General Plan was approved in 1994, following the incorporation of the city in 1991.

Tuesday's meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, One Town Square, 24601 Jefferson Ave.
