Obama Victory: Southwest RivCo Democrats Celebrate

Local Democrats celebrate a forecast victory for President Barack Obama.

About 50 or 60 Democrats who gathered Tuesday in Murrieta began celebrating a victory for President Barack Obama shortly after 8 p.m.

"I think we won; everyone is extremely happy," said Howard Katz, director of the Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County's headquarters on Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

On this election day, Obama has so far garnered 303 electoral college votes to Romney's 203, Huffington Post is reporting.

The local Democratic club, which hosted an election night party and potluck, spent the last few hours glued to the television.

"(The energy) was up and then it started going down a little bit when Romney started getting votes and then in the last 10 minutes, it just exploded and everyone was just thrilled," Katz said.

Katz said members of the club have spent the last few months calling local Democrats.

"We've called thousands of voters, making sure voters have the information on the candidates and trying to make sure every Democrat we could talk to was going to the polls...," Katz said.
