Murrieta Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

Twenty-two-year-old U.S. Army Sgt. Clinton K. Ruiz of Murrieta was killed Oct. 25.

A local soldier has been killed in combat. Twenty-two-year-old U.S. Army Sgt. Clinton K. Ruiz of Murrieta was killed Oct. 25 when his unit was attacked by small arms fire in Khas Uruzgan, Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense reported. According to a DOD news release, the sergeant died of wounds from the attack. Ruiz was part of 9th Military Information Support Battalion (Airborne), 8th Military Information Support Group (Airborne). He was stationed out of Fort Bragg, N.C. According to online reports, Ruiz attended Murrieta Valley High School. Staff Sgt.  Kashif  M. Memon, 31, of Houston, Texas, was also killed in the attack. He was assigned to the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.  A trust fund has been set up for Ruiz's year-old baby boy at California Bank and Trust, 41615 Winchester Road in Temecula, under the name Caleb Ruiz.
