Press release from the Riverside Transit Authority:

RTA OFFERS FREE RIDES ON TEMECULA, MURRIETA BUSES
Month-long campaign is designed to promote routes 23 and 24

Travel in Murrieta and Temecula is about to get even better.

The Riverside Transit Agency last week kicked off a four-week advertising campaign in Murrieta and Temecula that allows customers to find out for themselves the benefits of riding the bus.

Whether it’s a lift to work or school or maybe The Promenade mall, Pechanga Casino, Murrieta Senior Center, City Hall, Walmart or Old Town Temecula, RTA buses are going your way.

And best of all, the rides are free for the month of October.

As part of the promotion, RTA will run ads in local newspapers and send fliers to thousands of homes in Murrieta and Temecula containing a coupon for free rides.

Customers simply present the coupon to any Route 23 or 24 driver and they’ll get a free one-day pass valid on those routes and all connecting local bus routes.

The newspaper ads will run in the Temecula Valley News on Oct. 12 and 19 and the Californian on Oct. 18 and 21.

The fliers will appear in the Red Plum shared mail service on Oct. 16.
With ridership continuing to climb, new buses on the way, and a future transit center planned in southwest Riverside County, RTA officials are eager to promote public transportation in Murrieta and Temecula.

The area is home to several popular bus routes, including Route 24, which has seen a boarding increase of 10 percent compared with this time last year.

"We are proud to have developed a strong and efficient bus system that is carrying more customers than ever before,” said RTA Chairman of the Board and Murrieta Mayor Doug McAllister.

“There are a great deal of people that are going to benefit from this promotion.”

When it comes to growing ridership, RTA isn’t alone. Public transportation ridership surged in the second quarter of 2012, as Americans took nearly 2.7 billion trips, an increase of 2 percent over the second quarter of last year, according to a report released by the American Public Transportation Association.

This was the sixth consecutive quarterly increase.

“Based on the significant number of riders taking advantage of our trolley routes, it is clear that the residents of Temecula want more transportation choices and they will use public transportation if it is available in our community,” RTA Board member and Temecula City Councilman Jeff Comerchero said.

“There’s never been a better time to ride the bus. In fact, RTA’s investments are paying off, resulting in customers experiencing a higher level of quality service.”

The Riverside Transit Agency provides public transportation for Western Riverside County, operating 36 fixed routes, eight commuter routes and Dial-A-Ride service.

RTA’s service area spans 2,500 square miles, the second largest in
the nation.

This couldn't possibly happen in a worse place, given the proximity to the freeway, high school, andRead More numerous businesses. UGH! The following is the press release from MPD: On 05-21-13, at 3:27 AM, the Murrieta Police Department received a call of a water-main break in the area of California Oaks Road and Monroe Avenue. Murrieta Police and Murrieta Fire Department initially responded to the scene and discovered a large sinkhole in the westbound lanes of California Oaks Road just west of Jackson Avenue. The sinkhole was approximately 4 feet deep and about 20 feet across. The hydraulic pressure from the water-main break appears to have created this sinkhole and damaged all the westbound lanes of California Oaks from approximately Jackson to Monroe. As a result, the westbound lanes of California Oaks between Jackson and Monroe will be closed for repair until further notice. Rancho Water Officials estimate that these repairs will take approximately one week to complete. When traveling in this area please expect delays and plan an alternate route in order to arrive at your destination on time.

Hey Maggie, I don't get a chance to talk to the help desk but the ad has gone away for now. I justRead More made a comment on one of Carl Petersons blogs and now the comment has disappeared and no trace of it in my comment history. Are comments still pending proof reading before they post? Was it taken down by the blog author? I realize you guys have made a lot of changes so I'm still not sure if there are bugs being worked out or if some thing else is going on. Any help would be appreciated.
