Electric Vehicle Station Coming to Southwest Justice Center

Four new electric vehicle charging stations will be installed on Riverside County property—one in Murrieta and three in Riverside.

Drivers of electric vehicles will have three new locations in Riverside and one in Murrieta to charge up, thanks to a decision by the Board of Supervisors today to permit the installation of charging stations on county property.

The board voted 4-0—with Supervisor Marion Ashley absent—to participate in the ChargePoint America Program, which provides EV charging facilities paid for entirely with federal tax dollars under the Obama administration's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

According to county Economic Development Agency documents, Campbell, Calif.-based Coulomb Technologies will install and operate charging stations at the following locations:

—, 30755 Auld Road, Murrieta;

—10th Street county parking structure, 3403 10th St., Riverside;

—12th Street county parking structure, 3535 12th St., Riverside; and

—County Administrative Center parking lot, 4080 Lemon St., Riverside.

Coulomb will maintain the facilities, slated to be set up over the next year, through Dec. 31, 2013. Afterward, the EDA will take control.

The rates to be charged EV drivers for plugging in were not disclosed.

The total cost of installing all four charging stations was estimated at $20,844.
