Democrats Rallying In Southwest Riverside County

Organizing for America and the Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County are hitting the local campaign trail.

Local Democrats are ratcheting up their efforts to get President Barack Obama reelected in November, with their campaign headquarters located in Murrieta.

The Lake Elsinore/ Wildomar/ Canyon Lake Organizing For America team is welcoming the president’s supporters to a barbecue in from 3 p.m to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 in Wildomar.

The event will “celebrate the accomplishments of the president and OFA,” according to an announcement from the group. “Bring a friend and let's continue to build our volunteer base.”

The event will feature food, music and entertainment.

Additionally, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 3, the Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County will host a grand opening of its 2012 Campaign Headquarters located at 40250 Murrieta Hot Springs Road, Suite 103, in Murrieta.

According to Club President Gail Ferrell, activities at the new office will include phone banking, voter registration and envelope stuffing. The office will also be offering various campaign items, including bumper stickers, buttons, and window and yard signs; T-shirts may also be available.

The club will be having its general membership meetings at the office on Sept. 17 and Oct. 1, at which time guests are invited to come and meet local Democratic candidates, Ferrell said.

Special events at the location will kick off on Sept. 6 with a viewing party for the president’s nomination acceptance speech (time to be announced).

“Debate Viewing Parties” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. are also planned on the following dates:

Wed., Oct. 3: Presidential Debate on Domestic Policy, Moderator Jim Lehrer

Thurs., Oct 11: Vice-presidential Debate, Moderator Martha Raddatz

Tues., Oct. 16: Presidential Debate, Town-Hall format, Moderator Candy Crowley

Mon., Oct. 22: Presidential Debate on Foreign Policy, Moderator Bob Schieffer
