City Seeks to Fill Vacanies on Several Commissions

There are 11 seats open between five commissions. All are volunteer positions.

Applications are being accepted for upcoming vacancies on several City of Murrieta advisory commissions.

Three seats are open on the Planning Commission, and two seats each are open on the Traffic Commission, Community Services Commission, Historic Preservation Advisory Commission and Library Advisory Commission.

Planning Commission Chair Thomas Butler is resigning from his post a year early effective June 30, while others are nearing the end of their terms, according to City Clerk Kay Vinson.

Several others are vacating their positions because of term limits, Vinson said. On the Traffic Commission, Robert DeCubellis is not eligible for another term. Thomas Courbat is not eligible for another term on the Community Services Commission, nor is Christopher Campbell on the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission or Juanita Blankenship on the Library Advisory Commission.

Applications to fill the vacancies are being accepted from Murrieta residents 18 years or older. The terms are three years each, with the exception of one of the Planning Commission seats. Applications can be downloaded from the City Clerk's webpage, under the Forms section, and are due at the City Clerk's office by 5:30 p.m. May 12. The Clerk's office is located at City Hall, One Town Square, in Murrieta.

"It is anticipated that the City Council will make appointments on June 7," Vinson said.

All terms begin July 1, Vinson added.

Those selected serve without compensation, and are required to: be a registered voter, take an oath, agree to an ethics code, take an ethics class and may be required to file a Statement of Economic Interests.

For all positions, there is an interview process with a City Council subcommittee. Those seeking to serve on the Planning Commission may need to undergo a second interview.

Call City Clerk Kay Vinson with any questions at 951-461-6035, Monday through Thursday between  7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
