City of Murrieta Community Development Block Grant Applications Now Available

Murrieta expects to receive approximately $280,000 in CDBG funds in the next fiscal year, which starts July 1, 2014. Of that sum, an estimated $40,000 can be allocated for so-called public service projects.

MURRIETA - Applications are being sought for spending Murrieta’s share of a federal grant aimed at providing services to lower income people.

An information session will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 to discuss the application process and procedures for allocating Murrieta’s share of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).  The meeting will be held in the City Hall Council Chamber located at 1 Town Square, Murrieta, CA  92562.

Murrieta expects to receive approximately $280,000 in CDBG funds in the next fiscal year, which starts July 1, 2014. Of that sum, an estimated $40,000 can be allocated for so-called public service projects.

Non-profit groups and other public agencies can apply to receive funding under the program to provide services meeting CDBG criteria (24 CFR 570.201).  Applications are due at City Hall by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013.  Grants are not made to individuals.

To be eligible, a program must primarily benefit targeted groups. Targeted groups are lower income people in particular, but also include the elderly, handicapped adults, homeless, and victims of domestic abuse.

When considering applications, the City will be looking at specific benefit to the Murrieta community in accordance with the City Council’s funding priority for Program Year 2014 – 2015 of:  1) Community Food Pantries; 2) Women’s Programs: 3) Domestic Violence Programs: and 4) Children and Youth Development Programs.

Application packages are available now on-line and will be available at City Hall on August 19, 2013.
