A candidate for U.S. Senate who hails from Murrieta recently took his campaign to the top of California's highest peak, Mount Whitney.

Donald Krampe, 83, of Murrieta, hiked about 4,500 feet to the mountain's peak to garner attention for his grass-roots campaign, Contra Costa Times reported.

Krampe, a Republican, is among 24 seeking nomination in Tuesday's primary election for the non-partisan office sought again by incumbent U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat.
