Today, Congressman Ken Calvert, R-Corona, announced his intention to seek election to the 42nd Congressional District.
--as finalized today by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission--includes the cities of Eastvale, Norco, Corona, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Canyon Lake, Menifee, Murrieta and a portion of Temecula.
First elected to Congress in 1992, Calvert, 58, currently serves the 44th Congressional District.
"The largest city in the 42nd District is my hometown of Corona and I have had the pleasure of representing all of the communities in the district at one time or another during my time in public service," Rep. Calvert said in an emailed statement.
"I am honored to represent my constituents in the House of Representatives and I look forward to asking for their vote once again next year."
The 42nd District also includes the unincorporated ares of El Sobrante, Woodcrest, Temescal Valley, Lakeview, Nuevo, Homeland, Winchester and Aguanga.
Redistricting takes Murrieta out of the 45th Congressional District--currently represented by Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs--as of 2012.
A small portion of Murrieta is also currently in the 49th District, represented by Darrell Issa, R-Vista.
The new boundaries combine Murrieta into one district.
