Breaking Ground on the I-215

Just a few steps away from Interstate 215 in Murrieta, officials gather to break ground.

Ground was officially broken Thursday morning for a six-mile project through Murrieta.

About 50 government officials on the city, county and state level joined together, sharing in the excitement about the project that has been in the works for many years.

"For Murrieta residents and anyone traveling through Murrieta on I-215, adding one single lane is amazing," said Murrieta Mayor Randon Lane.

Officials, including Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone, then symbolically lifted dirt, signaling the beginning of the work. Construction is set to begin in March and wrap up in late summer 2012 and includes adding a lane in each direction between Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Scott Road.

The Riverside County Transporation Commission is overseeing the project. For more information, visit i215projectinfo.com.
