The mini-mart and gas station at 40210 Murrieta Hot Springs Road seeks to add beer and wine to its shelves but must receive approval from the Murrieta Planning Commission first.

As one gas station—ampm on Murrieta Hot Springs Road—is set to have its beer and wine license approved after an appeal, another nearby mini-mart is applying for one.

The consultant, then sent public notices to residents and businesses within 500 feet, announcing a community meeting Dec. 19. No members of the public came to the meeting, according to a staff report prepared by Associate City Planner Paul Swancott.

The mini-mart would sell beer and wine between 6 a.m. and midnight seven days a week, as well as follow several guidelines set out under the city of Murrieta's newly adopted alcohol sales odinance.

Additionally, because the census tract it falls in has already reached its maximum alcohol sales licenses under the Department of Alcholic Beverage Control (ABC), the city must deem it a public convenience and necessity.

Swancott is recommending the Planning Commission make a determination to approve the permit for these reasons, as the mini-mart could serve as a one-stop shop for residents should they also have the ability to purchase alcohol there.

When public opposition arose about an alcohol permit sought by nearby ARCO ampm at 39640 Murrieta Hot Springs Road, several citizens said they believed there were alrady too many places to buy alcohol along that stretch of roadway. (Read more about their comments here.)

Members of the public can provide their input on 7-Eleven's alcohol application during the Murrieta Planning Commission meeting, set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at One Town Square, 24601 Jefferson Ave.
