5 Things to Know in Murrieta: July 17

The Murrieta City Council will hold a workshop at 5 p.m. followed by its regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m.

1. Patchy fog is expected before 11 a.m. and after 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Otherwise, today is expected to be cloudy through midmorning, then a gradual clearing with a high nearing 82. Tonight there will be increasing clouds and a low around 53.

2. The Murrieta City Council is holding a workshop at 5 p.m. to discuss membership in the League of California Cities and identify an ad hoc subcommittee to examine alternative or complimentary associations. Following the workshop, the. Agenda items include, but are not limited to, awarding a bid to install flashing speed radar signals near schools on Washington Avenue, Jackson Avenue and Clinton Keith Road; a resolution adopting the city's 2012-2013 investment policy; and determing and levying 2012-2013 tax rates for community facilities districts. City Council will also recognize retiring Fire Department employee Elena Bloxton, as well as outgoing city commissioners. To read the full agenda, click here.

3. Teens in grades seven through 12 who have “Owned the Night” by reading and participating in the Murrieta Library’s Teen Summer Reading Program, will be rewarded with a pizza and ice cream sundae party beginning at 5 p.m. at the . Party activities include drawing the winning names for the reading baskets and other drawings with additional, great giveaways for all. This event concludes the Murrieta Library’s 2012 Teen Summer Reading Program. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of the Murrieta Library.

4. Every Tuesday at 11 a.m.,  presents the "Crybaby Matinee." Relax and enjoy a movie without worrying about unexpected tantrums or feedings in the dark; they keep the lights dimmed and the sound volume down. Baby-changing tables and stroller valet are also provided for the convenience of our parents. Showing today: “Katy Perry: Part of Me” (PG-13).

5. It is family night at  in Murrieta which means a free activity for the family. On the agenda tonight: Ranger Rick from Murrieta Parks and Recreation. Located at 24794 Madison Ave., the event begins at 5 p.m. and all the materials will be provided.
