Victim Hit by Ricochet Bullet Expected to Survive

A ricochet bullet at a target shoot in Good Hope hit a man in the chest, but he is expected by sheriff's deputies to have a short visit in a hospital, a sheriff's sergeant said today.

The victim's name was withheld, but he was taken to a hospital Saturday for what Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. David Cardoza said was a non-life threatening injury.

Sheriff's deputies received a dispatch at 1:25 p.m. about the accidental shooting on Bureau of Land Management property off of El Toro Road, a frequent place for legal target shooting, Cardoza said.

Deputies learned that the victim was struck by gunfire that ricocheted, the sergeant said. It was not immediately known from what the gunshot rebounded or what kind of weapon was used.

No one was arrested. Sheriff's authorities said an investigation was ongoing and that anyone who knows more about what happened in Good Hope to call the Riverside County Sheriff's Department at (951) 245-3357, or after hours at (951) 776-1099.

Saturday's shooting follows another accidental shooting on Dec. 21 north of Moreno Valley, where a man was killed accidentally by his friend while the two were shooting rifles on Reche Canyon Road and Locust Avenue. That man's name has not been released, one week after his death.
