Updated at 5:30 p.m. with description of girls.
Sheriff's officials today were still tracking the whereabouts of two sixth-graders who are presumed to be runaways.
Odelea "Dede" Justin, 12, and Kira Keys, 13, arrived at in Murrieta Tuesday morning but have not been seen since, said Riverside County Sheriff's Cpl. Courtney Donowho.
"The arrived at school separately yesterday and they apparently got together somewhere near the front of the school and walked away," Donowho told Patch.
The school’s video surveillance shows them leaving the school campus before school started at 8:51 a.m., according to Karen Parris, spokesperson for the Murrieta Valley Unified School District.
"After Kira's mom arrived to pick her up and discovered she was not at school, and it was determined that neither of the girls attended classes on Tuesday, Kira and Dede were reported missing..." Parris said.
Kira is Filipino, about 5-foot-3 and 130 pounds, with brown eyes and straight brown shoulder-length hair. She wears eyeglasses.
Odelea is black, about 5-foot-5 and 118 pounds, with long braided black hair.
Anyone with information on the girls' whereabouts was asked to contact Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 951-696-3000 and reference case no. SW120380048.
