Two Murrieta Middle Schoolers Still Missing

Odelea Justin,12, and Kira Keys, 13, left Tuesday before school started at Dorothy McElhinney Middle School, sheriff's officials said.

Updated at 5:30 p.m. with description of girls.

Sheriff's officials today were still tracking the whereabouts of two sixth-graders who are presumed to be runaways.

Odelea "Dede" Justin, 12, and Kira Keys, 13, arrived at  in Murrieta Tuesday morning but have not been seen since, said Riverside County Sheriff's Cpl. Courtney Donowho.

"The arrived at school separately yesterday and they apparently got together somewhere near the front of the school and walked away," Donowho told Patch.

The school’s video surveillance shows them leaving the school campus before school started at 8:51 a.m., according to Karen Parris, spokesperson for the Murrieta Valley Unified School District.

"After Kira's mom arrived to pick her up and discovered she was not at school, and it was determined that neither of the girls attended classes on Tuesday, Kira and Dede were reported missing..." Parris said.

Kira is Filipino, about 5-foot-3 and 130 pounds, with brown eyes and straight brown shoulder-length hair. She wears eyeglasses.

Odelea is black, about 5-foot-5 and 118 pounds, with long braided black hair.

Anyone with information on the girls' whereabouts was asked to contact Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 951-696-3000 and reference case no. SW120380048.

We have followed up on just about all leads on our own. Today we are putting up a mass amount of posters in the area here in Inland Empire as well as making our way around L.A. which is where they are rumored to have wanted to go. If you have any info whatsoever as little as it may appear, all help is appreciated.

Praying for their safe return, these girls do not look 12 and 13. Use FB as a tool to help as well as flyers. Someone knows there they are... or may have had contact. Praying for the families. This is dang scary.

It's crazy because my little sister is a friend to both these girls. Dede spent the night at our house. I believe the same thing, that if she did runaway to wherever she went I think LA, how did they get up there? It's scary because my sister saw them on the bus the day they went missing. It scares me because this could have been my sister.
Talon Smith February 11, 2012 at 06:40 AM
As in the bus to school?

Yes..on the bus to school. My sister already talked to the police at the school. Dede's mom came by our house to ask if we saw her.

Any update to this? Why has this not been on the news? The family needs to contact every media outlet to get the word out, contact all of the local news stations, tv, papers, everything. I can't believe the only place I have seen this story is on patch!
Tina Kearney February 11, 2012 at 05:31 PM
I agree. The school still hasn't even told the other parents. This really needs more attention. I called CNN (Nancy Grace) yesterday but haven't heard back. I'm going to call again! I feel like this should be getting national coverage and it's not even barely making local coverage.
Karissa February 11, 2012 at 05:48 PM
i agree with all of you why would she run away mabe they ditched school got half way home got tricked into getting into a car saying dede's mom got heart or something ,they get in the car & BOOM their gone. kidnapped not runaways i was 1 of her best in 4th-5th grade & i dont beleive she would run away 4 no reason. do u think the same thing not

Ooo no, If they DID go to LA , I hope they are still safe....I used to live in Temecula for a long time but now I live in LA and this place is pretty high paced, not sure why everyone (especially young girls) is so interested in coming here...sending my safe vibes to these girls and their worried families

The school STILL has not even mentioned this to other parents! I think that until they can prove for 100% without a doubt that these two weren’t taken somewhere close to our school (which is also right next door to an elementary school!) then it should be treated as such. The schools need to tell parents so that they can be aware or at least on the lookout. These are 6th grade little girls! ..

illeane its brittany and they go to my school
Nan Smith February 16, 2012 at 05:12 PM
These kids are 12 and 13 years old, they are still babies in the sense of what they know of the world. I am appalled that the school district has not done more to notify ALL parents, they have been remiss in their duties as administrators. And I am tired of the school and police referring to them as "runaways", just because they left together, that does not mean they are still safe or got where they intended to go. They are 12 years old, regardless of how they left, more needs to be done by the district and the police to make people aware of this situation.
justme February 16, 2012 at 08:57 PM
I am baffled by the little amount of press this has gotten! So I guess it is normal for 12 and 13 year old girls to just go poof?? Have the police even considered the fact that they may have left the school to skip that day and something happened to them then? There should be an Amber Alert, this should be on ALL news stations, in every paper! WTF??
J Carabine February 29, 2012 at 12:23 AM
Have they been found?
