Trapped Pooch Freed by Murrieta Firefighters

Murrieta fire Capt. Casey McDonald and Firefighter Jake Wright used a "little brute force" to free the trapped dog, Murrieta fire Chief Matt Shobert said.

A dog that got itself stuck in a fence was able to go about its day after being freed by Murrieta firefighters this morning.

Murrieta Fire Department Truck 1 was dispatched at 9:20 a.m. to an address on Cole Creek Court in Murrieta for a dog stuck in a fence, according to Murrieta Fire Chief Matt Shobert.

"The canine was uninjured, but could not un-wedge himself from his predicament," Shobert said.

Murrieta fire Capt. Casey McDonald and Firefighter Jake Wright used a "little brute force" to free the trapped dog, which was a Corgi mix, the chief said.

The dog had gotten into a neighbor's backyard, according to Murrieta fire department spokesperson Matt Corelli.

As firefighters contemplated cutting the fence to free the pooch, Corelli said the homeowner preferred another method, so they spread the metal fence apart. The fence was later spread back into place.

"It went in through a larger opening, and tried to exit through a smaller one," Corelli said.

"Our mission is to preserve property, human life and of course animal life."

The owner of the dog was present at the time of the rescue, and was able to see their dog freed, according to Corelli.
