The Murrieta Fire Department was close to wrapping up containment of the 200-acre Temprano Fire.

The Murrieta Fire Department was wrapping up containment Tuesday of the 200-acre Temprano Fire that broke out Sunday afternoon.

"We are going to be monitoring it for a little longer," said Murrieta fire Chief Matt Shobert. "We expect to be done after today."

Crews are picking up 12,000 feet of hose today, he said.

A cause has not yet been determined for the blaze that ravaged open space in the Warm Springs Preserve area as well as conservation land, at one point threatening 100 to 200 homes.

"We have not seen anything obvious," Shobert said, noting they would continue investigating.

Fire officials believe the flames broke out near Via Temprano, on the west end of the preserve near Whitewood Road.

"That is in close proximity to where it started, where it was first reported," the chief said.

No homes were lost in the fire. One homeowner lost an RV and outbuilding, while another resident's roof was damaged.
