Temecula Elks Honor Local Officers and Firefighters

Murrieta fire engineer/paramedic Sean DeGrave and Murrieta police Officer Derek Huss were among six recognized by Temecula Valley Elks Lodge during a May 8 awards ceremony.

A Murrieta police officer and a firefighter were among law enforcement recently honored by the Temecula Valley Elks Lodge.

Sean DeGrave, an engineer/paramedic for the Murrieta Fire Department, and Derek Huss, a Murrieta police officer, were recognized for demonstrating a "willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty to provide a safe environment for the citizens of our community," according to a news release.

DeGrave and Huss received awards at a May 8 event attended by more than 90 firefighters, their families and colleagues, and members of the Lodge.

Other local law enforcement honored included California Highway Patrol officers Dan England and John Garcia, Temecula police community service officer Caroline Zachary and U.S.Border Patrol agent Nicolas Garcia.

The event is one of several hosted by the Temecula Valley Elks Lodge each year to recognize citizens and students around the Valley, who help to make it a better place to live and work, said Robert Farrens, a spokesperson for the local group.
