Teen Mentors Sought for Murrieta/Temecula PAL Program

Safe Alternatives for Everyone is seeking teenage mentors to help run its Police Activities League beginning in the fall.

A leadership group for needy students is looking for a few good volunteer mentors.

Safe Alternatives for Everyone, or SAFE, needs 45 teenage boys and girls to help run its Temecula and Murrieta Police Activities League.

Kids between the ages of 13-17 who are interested in identifying and strengthening their leadership skills during the upcoming school year as well as helping the community and having fun were encouraged to enroll, said Patti Drew, a spokesperson for SAFE.

Students in the new group will be required to commit to meeting three times a month at locations in Temecula and Murrieta.

The P.A.L. program started serving youth in the area five years ago, providing a wide range of activities, such as a teen boxing team, fiber arts club, mountain bike club and several other recreational and educational programs.

Safe Alternatives for Everyone offers the P.A.L program because many kids face difficult challenges at school, home and on the playing field.

The agency is dedicated to creating and providing programs and activities which offer all kids an opportunity to participate with positive role models in a safe environment with caring adults.
