Teen Drivers Invited to CHP Class

The two-hour CHP Start Smart class is set for 6 p.m. Monday in Temecula. It is free to attend.

Teen drivers are invited to a Start Smart Class to be offered Monday by California Highway Patrol.

The two-hour class is set for 6 p.m. Monday at River Springs Charter School, 43040 Margarita Road in Temecula.

CHP's Start Smart program is a driver safety education class targetting new and future licensed teenage drivers ages 15-19, their parents and their guardians, said Temecula-area CHP Spokesperson and Officer Nathan Baer.

Officers discuss traffic collision avoidance techniques, collision causes and factors, driver/parent responsibilities, seatbelt usage and other topics, Baer said in a news release.

Additionally, testimonies are given by officers who have investigated fatal crashes involving teens, he said.

"The CHP offers the Start Smart program to help newly and future licensed teen drivers become more aware of the responsibilities that accompany the privilege of being a licensed California driver," Baer said.

Reservations to attend the class are not necessary.
