Two men have been arrested following a pursuit, a crash and an officer-involved shooting Friday that snarled traffic into Murrieta all morning on the southbound Interstate 15, officials said today.
Lake Elsinore residents Jose Edwin Gomez and Gustavo Alexander Martinez, both 20, were arrested and booked into the county jail.
Gomez was identified as the driver of the vehicle that was chased first by Ontario police and then California Highway Patrol officers into Lake Elsinore about 2 a.m. Friday.
He was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer, causing injury, receiving known stolen property and obstructing or resisting arrest.
There was no booking or arraignment information available today on Martinez.
He remained behind bars in lieu of $25,000 bail, pending arraignment Tuesday at the Southwest Justice Center.
The chase but no one was wounded, though one CHP officer was hurt in the crash, authorities said.
The investigation of the shooting is still underway – it was not clear who shot whom – and anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s Investigators at 951-955-2777 or Lake Elsinore police Detective Brett Seckinger at 951-210-1000.
