Suspected Gang Member Arrested After Scuffle With Police

A fight among three suspected gang members Friday night in the Stater Bros. parking lot ended in the arrest of one.

A suspected gang member was arrested in Murrieta Friday night after an alleged altercation with police.

At about 8:50 p.m. Friday, Murrieta police responded to an argument in the parking lot on Hancock Avenue, near .

A fight had broken out among three suspects whom officers learned had documented gang ties, according to Sgt. Daryl Underwood.

The Murrieta-Temecula Regional Gang Task Force responded to break up the argument, at which time one of the suspects became unruly with officers, Underwood said.

Two of the suspects were held at gunpoint until supporting units arrived. No shots were fired.

After a brief altercation, the suspect was wrestled to the ground by officers, Underwood said.

The arresting officer sustained some scrapes and abrasions, Underwood said.

The suspect refused medical treatment.

He was arrested on suspicion of resisting a police officer, violation of probation and public intoxication. His name was not available at the time of arrest.

The other two suspects were released from custody after the vehicle they were in, a black mid-'90s Honda Accord, was searched and cleared.
