A blaze near Warner Springs that began Thursday afternoon was burning out of control Friday, with 900 acres scorched and heavy smoke drifting over the mountains as far as Murrieta.
"It's kicking up a lot of smoke right now," said Audrey Hagen, information officer for Cal Fire San Diego County.
No buildings were threatened and no injuries were reported in the blaze, on Highway 79 and Chihuahua Valley Road, according to Hagen.
The fire, dubbed the Chihuahua Fire, is southwest of Palomar Mountain, Hagen told Patch.
Mandatory evacuations were in place for nearby residents.
