Shots Fired at Murrieta Condo Complex, Police Say

An officer responding to a pool party at the Arboretum condominium complex arrived to the sound of gun fire, Murrieta police said today.

A condominium complex in Murrieta was cordoned off Monday night when officers sought a gunfire suspect.

An officer was sent to the complex at 26360 Arboretum Way at about 10:30 p.m. Monday after dispatchers received complaints of a loud poolside party, Murrieta police Sgt. Robert Anderson said today.

Within moments of his arrival, the officer was approached by a frightened woman who said "an unknown male...had a gun and was going to kill her," according to Anderson.

"The officer then heard a gunshot, which was close to his proximity and from the direction the female and her male companion had come,'' the sergeant said.

The officer waited for backup to arrive, and with the help of a K9 unit, a search was conducted, during which officers located a loaded gun inside an apartment where the party had begun. Another pistol was found under a parked car, where a spent shell casing was also located, according to Anderson.
