Sentencing Postponed in Fatal Guava Street Crash

Nicole Elyce Campbell, 36, of Murrieta, agreed to postpone her sentencing until Sept. 1 so that Mike Keeler's family can attend.

The sentencing of a 36-year-old Murrieta woman who admitted to DUI gross vehicular manslaughter in the May 1 death of Mike Keeler has been postponed.

Nicole Elyce Campbell was scheduled to be sentenced this morning at Southwest Justice Center, but the sentencing has been moved to Sept. 1 so Keeler's family can attend.

Deputy District Attorney Sarah Crowley said the family was out of town, but have expressed their desire to make statements at the sentencing.

Keeler, 31, was the passenger in a car being driven by Campbell on the morning of May 1. The car ran off the road at a curve at Guava Street and Adams Avenue.

While returning to her current residence on Washington Avenue in Murrieta, Murrieta police Cpl. Jay Froboese said Campbell lost control of the Nissan Sentra while negotiating a turn.

She drove off the roadway into a drainge canal rolling the vehicle, Froboese said.

Keeler was pronounced dead at the scene. Campbell suffered undislcosed injuries.

Toxicology reports ordered by the Murrieta Police Department showed "Campbell's blood alcohol content was well above the legal limit to drive a vehicle," wrote Froboese.

to DUI gross vehicular manslaughter, waiving her rights to a trial. She faces a maximum sentence of six years, according to court records, pending a probationer's report.

She agreed to have the sentencing reset for 1:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at in Murrieta.

Campbell remains in custody at Southwest Detention Center since her May 19 arrest.
