RV Fire Causes Delays on I-215 in Murrieta

The fire was reported at 9:39 a.m. Tuesday on southbound Interstate 215 just north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

A motorhome caught fire on Interstate 215 in Murrieta today.

The fire was reported at 9:39 a.m. Tuesday on southbound Interstate 215, just north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, when black smoke was seen coming from the engine compartment, according to the California Highway Patrol website.

Arriving Murrieta fire crews found the circa-1980s RV fully engulfed, according to Murrieta fire Capt. Evan Tiss.

The fire caused a sigalert to be issued, closing the number two lane at about 9:54 a.m. while crews worked to put the fire out.

Fire department spokesperson Matt Corelli said the motorhome was a total loss but that no one was injured in the fire.

The lane was reopened by 10:28 a.m., according to CHP.
