POLL: Does the Colorado Shooting Spree Change Your Movie Plans?

Has it left you spooked or will you hit the theater to see one of the summer's expected blockbusters?

"Batman: The Dark Knight Rises" drew many to midnight screenings across the nation early Friday and was expected to draw thousands to theaters throughout the weekend.

Now some law enforcement agencies are on high alert in light of the, that left 12 dead and at least 50 injured. 

The National Association of Theatre Owners issued a statement Friday regarding the tragedy:

“On behalf of all the members and staff of the National Association of Theatre Owners, our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of this despicable act and their families. We are grateful for the quick and effective response by police and emergency personnel. Guest safety is, and will continue to be a priority for theater owners. NATO members are working closely with local law enforcement agencies and reviewing security procedures," said Patrick Corcoran, director of media and research and California operations chief for the organization.

AMC, which operates 300 locations nationwide—22 in Southern California—is banning face masks and fake guns, its corporate office posted on Facebook.

said it has stepped up security near the city's movie theater,

"We began stepping up patrol at our cinema since this morning when we got the news of the tragedy in Colorado," Murrieta police Capt. Dennis Vrooman told Patch.

In Riverside County, sheriff's officials said they were not going to add patrol hours or manpower.

"The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is ready at a moment’s notice to respond to any emergency event that may occur within our areas of service," Deputy Alberto Martinez told Patch.

"However, patrol operations continue as normal in our areas."

Patch was attempting to reach Reading Cinemas, which also operates theaters in San Diego and other California cites, as well as in New Jersey.
