Ambulance Crashes When Responding to Accident

The crash occurred on California Oaks Road near the Hancock Avenue intersection.

No one was injured when an ambulance and a Mercedes crashed in Murrieta Thursday afternoon as the ambulance was responding to a separate accident.

The crash occurred at 2:05 p.m. on California Oaks Road in front of Murrieta Fire Station No. 2, near the Hancock Avenue intersection.

Murrieta police officers were investigating a separate accident at California Oaks and Hancock Avenue when the ambulance arrived at the scene, colliding with the Mercedes, said Murrieta police Lt. Tony Conrad.

The Mercedes was travelling westbound in the number one lane and the ambulance was making a u-turn, Conrad said.

No injuries were suffered in either crash, Conrad said.

It was unclear who was at fault in the accident, according to Craig Dailey, a supervisor with American Medical Response, the company that owns the ambulance.

The Mercedes, being driven by a female, was hit in the front, with most of the damage on the passenger side. It had to be towed from the scene.

The ambulance was damaged on the middle of the driver's side.

Dailey said the company will conduct an investigation into the crash.

There were reports of traffic light outages on California Oaks Road around the same time the accident occurred, but Conrad said the lights were operating when the accident occurred.

There were no patients being transported in the ambulance when the crash occurred, Dailey said.
