Murrieta Woman Accused of Conning the Elderly Rejects Plea Bargain

Aiysheh Kopti, allegedly stole more than $2,100 from a 94-year-old Murrieta woman.

Dressed in a black evening gown, fishnet stockings, a gold chain and a pink bathrobe, the woman accused of conning a 94-year-old Murrieta woman out of money and belongings was in court today.

Aiysheh Kopti, 61, of Murrieta, refused a plea bargain offer that Judge Kelly L. Hansen called "reasonable."

Kopti is accused of conning Laura Shelton, since deceased, into believing she was a licensed caregiver. She then allegedly used Shelton's credit cards to illegally purchase $2,100 worth of merchandise.

Kopti was arrested by Murrieta police in January following a more than two-week investigation. Police said at the time that there could be several more victims.

Kopti has pleaded not guilty to charges of burglary, embezzling from an elder, acquiring access to credit cards without cardholder or issuers consent and possessing stolen property.

She is currently out of jail on her own recognizance and is due back in court next week.
