The officer sustained minor injuries to his hand and knee during the altercation that occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on Mountain Pride Drive in Murrieta.

A teenager allegedly injured a Murrieta police officer who was arresting him on suspicion of attempting to break into a car.

The 16-year-old Sacramento boy, whose name was not released, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, along with two other suspects after they allegedly were caught tampering with car doors, according to Murrieta police Sgt. Don Weller.

He said the three were spotted in the 40000 block of Mountain Pride Drive trying to open the doors to several parked vehicles. Officers arrived moments later and encountered the 16-year-old boy, a 16-year-old Murrieta girl and 18-year-old Jaysaun Anthony Flauk of Murrieta.

"Once handcuffs were on the subject, he was detained without further incident," Weller said. "However, the officer involved in the scuffle did sustain minor injuries to his hand and knee."

The lawman was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, being in possession of a controlled substance and theft of vehicle parts. He was booked into Southwest Juvenile Hall, along with the girl, who was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor tampering with a vehicle.

Flauk was booked on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle and booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta, but posted $2,500 bail and was released a few hours later.
