Preliminary information gathered from the scene and from witnesses revealed that Woods was traveling northbound on Whitewood when he lost control of his red Kia Optima, Gruwell said.

It appeared Woods may not have been wearing a seat belt and therefore was ejected as the car rolled and landed into a traffic pole, Gruwell said, cautioning the accident remained under investigation.

As of 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Gruwell said Woods' family had been notified of the accident.
