A Murrieta man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries Tuesday in a rollover crash, police said.
The single-vehicle crash was reported at 6:35 p.m. on Whitewood Road, approximately 150 to 200 feet south of Hunter Road, according to Murrieta police Sgt. James Gruwell.
The driver and sole occupant of the car, Anthony Woods, 47, was immediately taken to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious head injuries, Gruwell said.
Whitewood Road near Hunter was shut down for about four hours as police investigated the accident, Gruwell said.
"We treated it as a major injury accident with possible life-threatening injuries," Gruwell said.
Preliminary information gathered from the scene and from witnesses revealed that Woods was traveling northbound on Whitewood when he lost control of his red Kia Optima, Gruwell said.
It appeared Woods may not have been wearing a seat belt and therefore was ejected as the car rolled and landed into a traffic pole, Gruwell said, cautioning the accident remained under investigation.
As of 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Gruwell said Woods' family had been notified of the accident.
