Murrieta Man Found Hanging in Apparent Suicide

Family members found the 27-year-old man hanging in his garage, and called 911 at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Murrieta police said.

A 27-year-old Murrieta man hanged himself in an apparent suicide, police said early Tuesday.

The man was found Monday night by family members at a home in the 35000 block of Arendt Lane—off Whitewood Road between Clinton Keith Road and Linnel Lane—in Murrieta, police said in a news release.

Family hadn't seen the man—whom police did not identify—since 3 p.m Sunday. They called 911 at about 10:10 p.m. to report they'd found him hanging in the garage of the residence, according to Murrieta police Sgt. Jay Froboese.

"The caller stated it appeared he had been hanging for at least a day," Froboese said.

Murrieta police and fire responded to the home and found the man dead, hanging from the rafters of the garage, the sergeant said.

"It appeared (he) fashioned a noose from a Pendleton long sleeve shirt, put it around his neck while standing on the back of a couch in the garage, and stepped off the couch."

Trauma Intervention personnel were called out and assisted officers with the grieving family, Froboese said.

The body was released to the Riverside County Coroner's Office. A coroner's investigation is ongoing and the report on the actual cause of death is pending, Froboese said, noting there did not seem to be anything suspicious based on the preliminary police investigation.
