Murrieta Man Accused of Having Child Porn Images on His Computer

A Temecula computer repair shop called to report the alleged images Thursday, a police sergeant said.

A Murrieta man accused of having child pornography images on his computer was arrested by Temecula police Friday.

Sgt. Kevin McDonald of the Temecula Police Department stated in a news release that the images were discovered by a computer repair shop.

The Temecula business—where the man purportedly took his computer to be serviced—called to report the alleged images Thursday, according to the sergeant.

“This case was forwarded to Temecula police investigators for follow-up and they authored a search warrant for the suspect’s residence in Murrieta,” McDonald said.

At 3 p.m. Friday, Temecula officers served the warrant in the 23600 block of Sycamore Creek Avenue in Murrieta.

The suspected owner of the computer, Michael David Otten, 43, was taken into custody at that location on suspicion of felony possession of child pornography, according to McDonald.

Otten was booked at Southwest Detention Center near Murrieta.

Jail booking information such as a bail amount was not immediately available at publication time.

The name of the computer repair shop was not disclosed.

Anyone with further information regarding the investigation was asked to call Temecula police Investigator Carlos Topete at 951-696-3000. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s online CrimeTips form.
