Murrieta Firefighters Hope to 'Fill the Boot'

The Murrieta Fire Department is holding a 'Fill the Boot' drive Friday to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Murrieta firefighters invite the community to help them "Fill the Boot" Friday for families of local children struggling with a neuromuscular disease.

Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., the Murrieta Fire Department will be holding fire boots along California Oaks Road in front of the California Oaks Plaza (Target Center). They hope to fill the boots with donations that will then be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The MDA collections support worldwide efforts to eradicate 40 different neuromuscular diseases, said Murrieta Fire Department Spokesperson Matt Corelli, in a news release.

Their contributions also go towards MDA’s summer camps for children, professional and public health education and other programs, Corelli said.

Locally, MDA serves many families living in Riverside County, he said.

"All of the money raised during this campaign will stay in the area and help these families living with a neuromuscular disease," Corelli said.

"The community of Murrieta has contributed to this campaign for many years and even with the economic downturn has remained dedicated to charity for those in need."
