Murrieta Fire Dept. Calls Community Meeting to Discuss Wildfire Preparedness

Residents who live near the city's wildland areas are encouraged to attend the meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 24 at the Murrieta Community Center.

The Murrieta Fire Department is asking residents who live near wildland areas to make plans now to attend an upcoming community meeting.

“The Murrieta Fire Department is hosting a community meeting for the residents of Los Alamos Hills, Greer Ranch, and Bear Creek, as well as any other interested community members to discuss the topics of Wildland Fire Awareness and Disaster Preparedness,” according to a news release.

The meeting is scheduled to take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the Murrieta Community Center, 41810 Juniper St., across from Fire Station No. 1.

Speakers from the City of Murrieta will include fire Chief Matt Shobert, Mayor Rick Gibbs, Councilman Alan Long, Battalion Chief Steve Kean, Disaster Preparation Coordinator Dan Wilson and Fire Department Spokesman Matt Corelli.

Topics will include the condition of vegetation, defensible space, evacuation procedures and disaster preparedness.

There will be a slideshow presentation and informational pamphlets will be disseminated.

Time will also be set aside for a question-and-answer session.

The Murrieta Fire Department previously issued a warning of a dangerous, dry fire season this year due to low rainfall levels this past winter and the prior few.

Burn permits in the city have been suspended until further notice.
