A disturbance call in Hemet led police to arrest two ex- convicts in connection with the brandishing of a loaded semi-automatic handgun, according to the Hemet Police Department.

Officers received a call at 10:41 p.m. Friday about a large group of men smoking marijuana in front of an apartment building on Mayflower Street. One of the men pulled a gun at another man during the disturbance, Hemet police reported.

Two suspects, Matthew White, 39, of Murrieta, and Eric Bailey, 43, of Hemet, matched a description given to the officers. A loaded 9 mm handgun was spotted in the passenger seat of a vehicle, with its windows and doors open, that White and Bailey stood next to, police said.

Both White and Bailey were arrested for suspicion of being an ex-felon in possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm. They posted $5,000 bail each and were released Saturday, jail records showed.

$5000.00 is that it? thats pocket change for such a crime. Sure it said suspicion of being an ex-con but computers should have had the answer to that in a nano second. Answers are needed on this one.

Suspicion implies a certain margin for doubt. There is no doubt that these two are ex-convicts -- meaning they have served prison time. The doubt or suspicion cast in this matter is whether or not they had possession or knowledge of the gun in the car they were standing next to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately, it sounds like the witness who called police didn't come forward at the time to identify which one of these guys was brandishing the gun, hence they both went to jail. Hopefully, a detective will be able to locate the witness and file charges against one of both of these clowns. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- And, I agree that the bail was waaay too low.
