Murrieta Blaze 'Suspicious' in Nature, Fire Dept. Says

The fire broke out Thursday night in Murrieta, and the fire department says they are stilll investigating the cause.

A fire that scorched a small patch of a field in Murrieta Thursday night is "suspicious" in nature, the fire chief tells Patch.

The fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. across from the Ralph's supermarket on Washington Street, near Nutmeg Street.

The Murrieta fire department arrived on scene a short time later, and got a handle on the blaze within ten minutes, according to Fire Chief Matt Shobert.

"Crews did a few good job containing it quickly," he told Patch Friday, adding that only about a half acre was burned.

As for the cause, it may not have been an accident.

"It's suspicious, but we were unable to determine the cause," he said.
