MSJC Student Accused of Threatening Professor

Beovanni C. Glover, 20, allegedly threatened his U.S. history professor when the lecture shifted to segregation.

A Mt. San Jacinto College student was arrested on the Menifee Valley campus after allegedly making a criminal threat against his history professor.

The alleged threat occurred Aug. 15 when Beovanni C. Glover, 20, grew upset during the professor's lecture. It was the first day of classes for the fall semester at the campus that serves its surrounding communities. The History 112 class covers U.S. history since 1865.

According to a student who did not want to be identified, Glover, whose race was listed as black on his arrest record, grew upset when the introductory lecture shifted to the Civil War and then the Jim Crow laws.

"He (the teacher) used the 'n' word in context of the lesson," the student told Patch.

According to the student, the teacher was using the word to illustrate the poor treatment of African Americans that continued in many Southern states after the Civil War.

Glover then stood up and allegedly ordered the teacher to "go for a walk outside with him," according to the student.

The student said Glover continued to badger the professor, at one point knocking the teacher's glasses off his face.

A campus police officer then arrived, according to the student.

Glover was taken into custody the next day by Mt. San Jacinto College police, according to jail records.

A campus spokesperson confirmed Glover was arrested in connection with the incident, but was unable to discuss the incident because of student privacy laws and because the case was still under investigation.

The class has since been moved to a different classroom.

"Our No. 1 priority is to ensure a safe educational environment for all our students, faculty and staff," said Karin Marriott, spokesperson for the college.

Glover was booked at Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of obstructing or resisting a police officer, providing a false ID to a police officer, assault and battery of a process server and making terrorist threats, according to jail records.

Glover spent two days in jail. He was formally charged with making a criminal threat in connection with the incident, according to court records. No court date had been set as of Monday.
