Malfunctioning Traffic Light Disrupts Cal Oaks Traffic

Downed traffic signal affects commuter traffic in Murrieta.

A traffic back-up Tuesday for motorists exiting Interstate 15 to California Oaks Road in Murrieta was due to malfunctioning traffic lights.

The signal at the northbound exit was down for a few hours this afternoon, according to city of Murrieta Public Works Director Pat Thomas, showing flashing red lights and confusing motorists.

Murrieta police were on scene to direct traffic. City public works and the construction company handling the interchange project were on hand.

The construction had light cycles disrupted and was causing a back up, according to Murrieta police Lt. Tony Conrad.

A technician was expected at 4 p.m., according to Thomas, and the signal appeared to be working again by about 4:20 p.m.

Thomas said the light was also down overnight. They weren't sure if it was due to construction, a short, or if it was weather related.

"We just want to get it fixed," Thomas said.
