Murrieta Police Captain to be Given Lifetime Achievement Award

Murrieta police Capt. Steve Porter will be presented with the award at a May 26 banquet at the Riverside Convention Center.

Murrieta police Capt. Steve Porter will be recognized with a lifetime achievement award from the Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee (LEAC) of western Riverside County.

Porter is one of seven policemen who will recieve the honor May 26 at the 33rd Annual LEAC Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the Riverside Convention Center. 

LEAC was formed in 1978 by Riverside residents Rick and Marie Fritts, both community activists. With the vision and dreams of the Fritts’, LEAC was formed, and is comprised of a group of regional business, community and law enforcement personnel.

LEAC hosts an appreciation dinner, an event that brings the community together to recognize public safety officers throughout Western Riverside County for their distinguished police work and outstanding service, said Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Joseph Borja in a news release.

“It is an honor for those involved in LEAC to keep the vision created by Rick and Marie Fritts alive by recognizing the men and women of law enforcement that go above and beyond to ensure our safety,” said Phil Holder, LEAC chairman.

The LEAC committee bestows honors in five areas: for valor, investigative excellence, excellence in community service, lifetime achievement and the Rick and Marie Fritts distinguished K-9 award. Law enforcement agencies throughout western Riverside County are encouraged to submit the name of an officer in each of the categories, Borja said.

Lifetime achievement honors an officer who has completed a minimum of 25 years as a sworn law enforcement officer; displayed the highest level of professionalism; continuously exceeded expectations; sustained positive impact on his/her community; consistently performs his/her duties in a manner in harmony with the department’s goals, mission, objectives or values; and has served as a peace officer in Riverside County for the last five years.

Lifetime achievement honorees include: Assistant Chief Eddie Garcia, UCR Police Department; Chief Richard Dana, Hemet Police Department; Capt. Steve Porter, Murrieta Police Department; Sgt. Marco Quesada, Riverside Police Department; Officer James F. Arbogast, California Highway Patrol, Temecula; Investigator Philip Matheny, Riverside Sheriff’s Office, Moreno Valley; Capt. Larry Grotefend, Riverside Sheriff’s Office.

The event reception starts at 6 p.m. May 26 at the Riverside Convention Center, 3443 Orange Street in Riverside. The reception will be followed by dinner and the awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Tickets to the dinner are $50. To purchase tickets, call 951-686-7400.
