A second woman who alleges she was molested by a former Riverside County teacher who recently resigned as assistant principal at a Los Angeles County high school filed legal claims today against a pair of school districts, saying they failed to protect her.

The woman, now 18 and identified only at "Brianna," said officials at Riverside Unified School District and Val Verde Unified School District, which is based in Perris, failed to take steps to protect students.

"They're supposed to protect their students, not physically harm them and mentally harm them," she said. "They're supposed to do their job a certain way because if they would have done it years ago this would have not happened to me now."

Her attorney, Luis Carrillo, contends that Brianna was abused by Andrea Cardosa while attending Tomas Rivera Middle School in Perris in the 2009-10 school year, when Brianna was 14 years old. Cardosa recently resigned as assistant principal of Alhambra High School in Los Angeles County after another alleged victim, named Jamie, posted a video on YouTube of a telephone call she made to Cardosa accusing her of molesting her at Chemawa Middle School in Moreno Valley.

During the call, Cardosa seemingly admits to her actions and said she regretted her behavior. Cardosa has not been charged with a crime.

Tomas Rivera Middle School is in the Val Verde Unified School District. The claim against RUSD contends that Cardosa previously worked for that district, failed to investigate her background and then gave her a positive recommendation when she was applying for the job at the Val Verde district.

Jonathan Moreno, a spokesman for the Val Verde district, declined to comment on the case. Jacquie Paul, spokeswoman for RUSD, would only say that a legal claim had been filed.

"I can't tell you a lot, but I can confirm that our district received a claim from an individual related to this investigation," she said. "Beyond that I cannot comment further."

The claims -- which are precursors to lawsuits -- seek unspecified damages.

Carrillo said "most of the administrators" in the districts "should not be in their jobs because they utterly failed to protect the kids."

Prime example why Unions need to go and all their supporters… This sick person bounced between schools molesting children and re jacket was just brushed under the rug… Just like every other sick teacher out there…
TSManning January 23, 2014 at 07:07 PM
SA- please explain a bit more of your union comment. I'd like to know what you meant.
Lisa Warner Kavanagh January 23, 2014 at 09:04 PM
Please check your facts... Chemawa middle school is in Riverside unified school district.

In recent years and / or news more of these sick stories have been coming to the surface, which has revealed corruption / cover-ups … This kings of corruption are unions and I hate to say, religious organizations…
Jeff Kleiner January 24, 2014 at 01:15 PM
No tell it like it is SA.......it has been the Catholic Church wo have paid out just under 500 million in settlements.......not unions.
ChrisG January 24, 2014 at 01:57 PM
Both churches and unions are culprits in not holding their people accountable. Shameful!
Annie G. January 24, 2014 at 02:50 PM
ya- that's what I said- schools and catholic churches are in a dead heat for child molest records. hey---maybe the pope is secretly in charge of schools- lets look into it, shut it down. ROFLMAO
SA January 24, 2014 at 07:02 PM
@Kleiner: We do not see the Right & Left attempting to get rid of religion but we do see the Right & Left attempting to get rid of Teacher Unions …. Cookies anyone? ... Yes ChrisG it is shameful...
Jeff Kleiner January 24, 2014 at 07:56 PM
The difference is this.....teachers who prey on children are fired and many go straight to jail. That's Union policy. The Catholic Church does nothing but hide violators and transfers them somewhere different unless the police jail them.
TSManning January 24, 2014 at 09:29 PM
If there was a bit more scrutiny by our courts when it comes to settling a criminal offence in a civil court, I believe there could eventually be a drop in child molestations. Look at our" Corporate offenders" oh wait who the heck actually has charges of a criminal offense and then prosecuted? Hmm. Terrible that some can buy themselves out of being accountable. With and without money being paid out , its still about money. And Union or Republican, Democrats blah blah etc.... They're are perverts.among them as well . Still we won't know this if we stop talking about it.

It is sickening what the Catholic Church has done. @SA, i don't recall reading/hearing about mass molestation in Buddism, Hinduism, Taoism, Bahai' or the Flying Spaghetti Monster crowd, among many others. Why should all religions suffer riddance because of the disgusting actions and cover-ups of one other? As far as schools are concerned-- I've suggested for years now to put a damn camera in every class. Not only will we minimize the possibility of molestation and other "sneaky" wrong doings, but what could be better than video to vindicate student or teacher in various circumstances.
ChrisG January 27, 2014 at 10:42 AM
@southern, if I were a teacher I would want a camera in my class. That is a very good idea.
SA January 27, 2014 at 11:53 AM
@Southernbelle … I totally agree … Today at 9 a.m. the opening proceedings will start re: teacher tenure … The Teachers’ Union will vigorously defend this matter, and then push for a pay increase, all the while tax payers’ children are receiving a crappy education while being molested … ALL teachers are protected by a union that does not care if a child’s life is ruined as long as the union gets it’s fees… Get rid of the unions, and the molesters will follow as their protection will no longer be…
TSManning January 27, 2014 at 12:24 PM
Our Interest in what our"media " brings to our attention which quite often is inflated, will always affect the whole no matter what the subject these days. Also census reports large # s of Catholicism so 1+1=_. No? Brilliant, camaras! Now we just got to get our heads and pointer fingers out of our Arce's & start holding individuals accountable as well as there immediate supervisors. The Union (TU) could use a overhaul. It has its purposes. Completely removing unions would eventually be the problem if some ?? Hmmm had it their way. If or When these preditors are protected its only fair to say the system in which all of these political party's function, lobby and exist in only because we allow this at a higher level. Its time to start looking to the middle management not government but our courts!
Jeff Kleiner January 27, 2014 at 01:41 PM
Here is how ignorant SA's argument is. Teachers unions "will vigorously defend this matter, and then push for a pay increase, all the while tax payers’ children are receiving a crappy education while being molested." according to the ignorance of conservative Republican SA. However, our children receive great educations here in California and they are NOT molested. If a child claims molestation it is a police manner, not union matter. If the police and DA convict the teacher, the teacher is fired, however they are totally innocent until proven guilty. Any warning of molestation the teacher is suspended until legal matters are cleared up. Only an ignorant ideology driven comment by SA could clearly lie about our teachers, the unions, police and our school boards.
SA January 27, 2014 at 04:36 PM
@Communist Kleiner … Really not the case and sorry I want strangers’ children to be well taken care of by their parents and not a system … Every teacher is currently protected if they molest a child… please tell me otherwise … Liberals think that molesters have rights when they take purity away from children…
