Girl Approached By Man Posing as Officer While Walking Home

Murrieta Valley Unified School District officials notified parents of the suspicious incident.

A teenage girl was offered a ride by a man posing as a undercover police officer as she walked home from school Wednesday, school district officials said.

In an e-mail sent home to parents, the Murrieta Valley Unified School District said police were considering it a suspicious incident. The girl, a Creekside High School student, was walking near Kalmia Street and Washington Avenue when she was approached by the man, officials said.

The man was described as in his 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds with brown eyes, very short brown hair, wearing gray shorts, a black shirt and flip flops.

District officials said the girl refused the ride, and when she got home she called the Murrieta Police Department who then classified it as a child annoyance incident. Students were reminded to always walk in a group of friends; never to go in deserted places alone; to report suspicious incidents to a trusted adult; and to stick to the same, safe route while walking home from school.

Police were still investigating the incident on Thursday. Anyone with information was asked to call the police department at 951-696-3615.
