A Menifee man and former assistant Scoutmaster for a local Boy Scouts troop who snuck into the home of a longtime friend and engaged in sex acts with the man's preteen daughter pleaded guilty Thursday to felony charges and was immediately sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Jason Wayne Freeman, who turns 40 Friday, was arrested exactly a year ago after he was caught molesting a girl in her bedroom. The child's name was not released.

During a status hearing today at the Riverside Hall of Justice, the prosecution and defense informed Riverside County Superior Court Judge Becky Dugan that a plea agreement had been reached in the case.

Under the terms of the agreement, Freeman acknowledged responsibility for three counts of committing lewd acts on a person under duress, and in exchange the District Attorney's Office dropped seven other charges alleging lewd acts on a child under 14 years old.

Dugan imposed the sentence specified under the plea deal. Had Freeman been tried and convicted of all 10 charges, he could have faced life in prison.

According to sheriff's investigators, around 2 a.m. Dec. 12, 2012, a man residing in the area of Hunter Ridge and Pine Creek drives went to check on his daughter and walked into her room to find Freeman next to her in bed, performing sex acts on her.

Freeman, whom prosecutors said has known the family for many years, leaped out a window and fled. The father called 911, and Freeman was located at his residence in the 29000 block of Singing Wood Lane an hour later and arrested without incident, according to the sheriff's department.

Soon after the allegations surfaced, Freeman was removed from his leadership roles with Troop 444 and the Menifee Youth Foundation, UTSandiego reported.

Sick sick. He will get put in Atascadero State Hospital for child molesters and walk around free all day in his ward and nibble on snacks, watch tv and videos in the TV room, exercise, play games, or watch a movie in the movie theater or just sleep all day! Probably find himself one of the real nice looking guys to keep him warm and hold hands all day and kiss in the hallways. Too bad the father didnt have a shotgun with him cause that would have been a darn good shot as he was climbing OUT the window with a clear, no miss possible, target on his azz the sick creep. Very sorry for his family if he had/has any. Wife, children, mother, father. I could not imagine having a family member like this douche and the disgust and embarrassment. For the family of the victim. Lots and lots of help and I hope to God it helps your young baby in her future. She needs to get mad, real mad, support others like her, and not be the victim forever. Those are the girls we really see get stronger after something like this. God bless her heart and her future.

SCUM BAG! 24 years? What about the scars she will have for the rest of her life? I say, "oops.... lost the key. Sorry (not)".

and this, folks, is why, those of us who prefer it, should continue to be able to have gun protection in our homes. It'd a been a real sad day for him had it been my daughter, and my home!! sorry a$$ loser.

Complete scumbag piece of trash. But are some of you really suggesting that if you had a gun in the home you would actually shoot or kill him in front of the little girl? That's just insane, IMO.

my comment--- you are right and yes it would be unexceptable. But the anger is so overwhelming that this man did this, and these type of crimes are so sickening that is all I can think of. They do not need to be on this planet or living in a nice cush "jail". While this girl will suffer all her life from this monster. Shooting him in front of the little girl would have just added to the trauma, and you are correct. Wishful thinking in the heat of the moment.

A guy like this does not change his ways because he goes to prison for a few years. He will be the same person when he gets out and based on statistics will most likely commit another sexual crime. They should lock them up forever.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I'd shoot him without thinking twice!! Are you kidding, what's insane is this loser breaking into someone else's house and molesting their daughter--that's INSANE!! If I shot him in front of my daughter, she'd at least know that mom would NEVER allow anyone to harm her like that and she is FULLY protected by me! He is trespassing, and I would be DEFENDING a helpless child. I would be lawfully in the right!

I actually knew him. My family lived across the street from him and his family. He has children and he seemed to live the perfect life, when I read this it completely through me through a loop because I would have never expected this. I actually used to like talking to him and spending time with him, he never made a pass at me and I was twelve at the time. My brother would go over often and play with his son but there was never a complaint of anything inappropriate. Anyone who knows his family will say that they are the kindest people they've ever met. It is disgusting what he did but it is even more shameful what he made his wife and family endure.
